Ramblings from the Manor

It's been a while...
last modified: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 (5:22:56 PM CST)
Updates take a long time to prepare, especially when you tend to want to update with more then just one or two cels at a time! Plus, with all the hooplah surrounding our move last summer, things have been so hectic I haven't had much time to attend to my cels.

So, finally, things came all together. Updates have been made. I'm especially proud of the quality of my new acquisitions. Unemployment does tend to sharpen the eye, and force those decisions of exactly what you can and can't afford, and what you need and can pass on. I've just been lucky to have a husband who supports my insane hobby the way he does.

I would like to eventually scan some of my collection of fanart. There are some amazing artists out there who deserve to have their skills publicized.

Anyway, enjoy the update! Also, if you're into world of warcraft fanfiction, I posted my most recent story on fanfiction.net...just search for the tabbykitty101 ;)

The House demands an Update@!
last modified: Monday, June 08, 2009 (6:10:22 PM CST)
Finally I had a few minutes in which to post my update. Many folks have heard, but my husband and I have purchased a new house and will be moving soon. In the meantime, we've been busting tail trying to get the current house cleaned, packed, and generally gussied up to sell. And every project leads to 50 others! I'll be glad when we're all moved, and this place sells.

This update is pretty special to me, as it features the Haibane Renmei shikishi we purchased at Sakuracon 2009. Abe is one of our favorite artists, and of course, we got married to the opening theme to Haibane, so this is something very precious to both of us.

Also special to me is the sheer number of Noirs I've managed to bring together in the last few months. The Mirielle's and Chloe's in particular I am very proud of. Of all the anime I've watched since getting into this hobby, Noir continues to stick with me for the beauty of the characters, and the story. I can count really on one hand the total number of anime that can stand up to the time and rewatching criteria.

So anyway, I hope everyone enjoys the update, and I apologize that it took me a good 2 weeks longer then I thought to get it done. Also, I still have several items in the Rubberslug shop, and it's a good time to make offers on certain things!

Post-Halloween Update
last modified: Saturday, November 03, 2007 (9:45:59 PM CST)
Well, my computer went poofy a few months back, and one of the unforseen side effects was my scanner stopped working...period. Fast forward to a week ago when I decided to start scanning my pile...and panic! Thank goodness I married a computer tech who puts up with my hysteria! He got it working in no time, so I could finally update.

It's a huge one, and several wishlists are in it. I added two new series-Genshiken and Jubei-chan. Updates to old favorites include Ah My Goddess, both TV and Movie, DBZ Android 18 (with a yummy new tourney cel), DBZ gengas, DBZ group, Excel Saga, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland (with a wishlist!), Noir Altena, Kirika, and Mirielle, Outlaw Star, and Read or Die: Anita, Maggie, Others, Nenene, and Group (another Wishlist!). And some unknownables are in there too for some further fun.

And as I update, I realize, as much as I love my sketches, they can't replace that rush from having the cel. It is sad how progress made such an art form obsolete.

But anyway, enjoy the update!

Sakura-Con and Updates
last modified: Monday, April 09, 2007 (7:22:07 PM CST)
Well, another Sakura con has come and gone, and sadly-this was not a good year. From organization to missing guests to overpriced hotels, to my car getting scraped in the garage-this was not a good year. The best part of the con for me was the japanese guests (incredible-Nightow, Hirano, Minowa, Kurata-wonderful people, so kind and very professional), and the fact that I picked up an incredible Skuld and Noble Scarlet cel from Asylum.

So yes, I finally updated. I had a reason to right? So many things...I swear I will never wait that long again.

But as I reflect and update, I really wonder about cons. People want so desperately to say they are for the fans, by the fans-but it gets to a point where volunteers just can't do it anymore. Look at the san diego comic con...the best run con in the country. And all professional, with volunteers. Why is that model so "evil"? I would have gladly paid more to avoid all the hassels I had this year, from my friendly "fan run" con. But what do I know, I may just be a wee bit bitter.

Let me go look at my pretty Skuld cel...that makes me feel better :)

Round 7 and counting...
last modified: Thursday, July 20, 2006 (9:00:10 PM CST)
Yep, 20 cent listing day means stuff goes back to ebay...again. And again...and again. Please almighty cel gods, will most of them please sell this time??? I think a few of these I really have listed 7 plus times and still no takers-mainly DBZ.

That does bring up an interesting thought though-is the cel market in the US (ala ebay) flat? It used to be the hardcore cel collectors regularly trolled ebay for stuff, and fought just as hard (if not harder) for the cels there as they did on yahoo japan or other foreign auction sites. And now, with the proliferation of the deputies, it is easier then ever for people to sort of leap over the "cutting of the teeth" stage-which is pretty much what ebay is...I mean, if most cel collectors had access to selling via yahoo japan or the like, I highly doubt they would be selling on ebay at all. Or perhaps ebay has just become too much of a giant garage sale-people trying to get what they paid or a lot more for their items, while buyers look at them and ask if they are insane. I mean really, asking $500 for a stained golf bag you claim was in Caddyshack doesn't make it really worth that. (and yes, that is a real example from a local garage sale I saw about two years ago).

I guess the point of my senseless rant is I really wish I could get what I paid for these cels, even though I doubt it'll happen...on ebay. LOL. But I can dream of that simpler time, when the cel gods smiled, and money flowed like raindrops from the great ebay umbrella, down to us desperate cel folk ;) So check out my auctions if you get a chance!

Watchy but no Biddy
last modified: Sunday, April 02, 2006 (7:49:58 PM CST)
I think this is the new trend in cel buying on ebay. You put up a bunch of cels, that get zero bids until 2 seconds before the auction ends...if at all. And yet throughout the auctions, you see the numbers of watchers keep growing and growing. Come on people...don't just watch...bid!!! Starving cel collector here needs some money! Or, more accurately, visa wants some money! :)

So if you couldn't guess, I currently have 19 items up for bid on ebay. All extremely nice and rare cels and genga that I am being forced to sacrifice for various reasons. And yet, so far, only 1 thing is actually selling-and out of the beautiful asuka cel, or the rare death of bardock, or even one of my last remaining mirai trunks...what is selling? A freaking genga set of Goku! I think I will never understand...

Superbowl Update-Go Hawks!
last modified: Sunday, February 05, 2006 (8:16:46 PM CST)
What better to do then update during the superbowl? I guess I really didn't realize just how much new stuff I had until I started putting it in two hours ago. This update is really special, as it showcases my two BWA wins, and my gorgeous Kirika wishlist, which I am still amazed that I had. And also, I finally get to show off the amazing ROD sets I purchased so long ago. I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I do.

One thing that happened during this update-I found a bunch of freebie cels and sketches that apparently had been living in the closet for the past year and a half. Has that ever happened? I used to laugh when people said they lost stuff and forgot they had it, until it happened to me.

Anyway, enjoy the update-go hawks!

ruminations on an update
last modified: Sunday, March 20, 2005 (10:11:29 PM CST)
Weblogs are interesting critters...does anyone actually read these things? Or are they just mouthpieces for the random thoughts of people afloat in cyberspace?

But really, this is about ruminating on an update. So much goes into updating...scanning, background matching, formatting, tagging, posting, describing...all for that little ego stroke when someone else recognizes the coolness of what you have managed to acquire. So really, is it all about the sharing, or really about the egostroke? I think it's both...you know how wonderful your things are, but it is always nice to hear it again. I especially think that about my Noir cels. I love my collection, but I also love the feedback from the few other Noir lovers out there, who all have equally gorgeous and droolworthy stuff (sovereign, your kirika is to die for! have I said that yet?)

Ok, time to stop rambling and actually do the update!
